Update as of April 21, 2024: You can now conveniently download all lessons from https://archive.org/details/khuddasikkha-syd-kundadhana

This is an online Vinaya class organised by a Vietnamese group. The class is currently conducting weekly via Zoom.

At the time of this writing, the invited teacher venerable sayadaw U Kuṇdadhāna is currently explaining Khuddasikkhā text.

Each lesson normally last for about 1 hour 30 minutes, 1 hour for explaining Khuddasikkhā text (with Power Point presentation) and 30 minutes for question and answer session.

The video lectures are bilingual in English and Vietnamese (translation). So you will have about 45 minutes only for each video lesson if you don't understand both of the languages.

However, in the audio podcast playlist, there are monolingual English files, monolingual Vietnamese files, or both, you can choose to listen.

The Sayadaw encourages his audiences to learn by heart all of the 476 stanzas of this Khuddasikkhā-mūlasikkhā book.

The videos have Power Point presentation which will better support you in understanding the pāḷi and the lectures. There is also an audio playlist available:

(To download these audio podcast files, one can use Google Podcasts app - available both on Android/iOS:  Install Google Podcasts app first, then open this Google Podcasts link with Google Podcasts app. Remember to change Google Podcasts settings to keep the downloaded podcasts longer.
You can also find other podcast links for other podcast apps from the Anchor playlist above.)

Download the videos for offline view

Since YouTube officially doesn't allow users to download its videos via third party tools (view YouTube Terms of service here), we need to download the videos using its official YouTube app.

This method has this main drawback (quoted from YouTube app):

Downloads remain available as long as your device has an internet connection every 2 days. This process happens automatically and does not re-download the video.

However, the official app will help you download the videos quickly (thanks to YouTube CDN) and conveniently (it will let you know whenever there is a new video added into the playlist).

Steps to download the videos

Warning: the videos can be large enough to consume all of your mobile data package. It is recommended to use a Wi-Fi internet connection if it is available.

Step 1: install YouTube app on your devices:

  • Apple *OS (iPhone, iPad) - App Store install link
  • Android powered devices - Google Play store install link

Step 2: from your mobile devices, click on this link Videos of the class - YouTube playlist, it should prompt you to open the playlist with YouTube app.

Step 3: once the playlist is opened with YouTube app, simply click on Save/Add playlist icon and Download icon, see the below picture.

YouTube will ask you to choose a video quality for downloading. You need to choose 360p or higher video quality to be able to see the Power Point presentation text.

This one-time chosen quality will apply for all videos in the playlist, including all of its future videos. If you change your mind, you have to delete the whole playlist and downloaded videos and start all over again.

When the videos are all downloaded, it will be something like this:

Sync & download new videos

Whenever there is a new video added to the playlist by the owner, you will see a syncing icon as shown in the below screenshot when you open the playlist.

Important: Immediately after the online class ended, the live stream video will NOT be available for downloading. It seems that YouTube needs more time to convert the original video to a few more videos (with different quality). To be sure, one may wait for about 24H later to sync and download.

So after about 24H later, simply click on the sync icon as shown in the screenshot above to download the new video.

May all be able to perfect the sīla training more and attain all of noble aspirations quickly.
